Enlightra is a DeepTech startup based in Lausanne, Switzerland, founded in 2022. The company develops chip-scale multi-wavelength laser technology to revolutionize data transmission in AI clusters and data centers. Traditional copper connections face limitations with increasing demands for faster and more energy-efficient data transfer. Enlightra addresses this by combining multiple discrete lasers in a single integrated source, enabling numerous high-speed connections from a compact unit. This technology significantly reduces energy consumption, system complexity, and physical space requirements, supporting the transition from copper to optical links designed for dense, high-performance environments. The company has developed 8- and 16-channel lasers that meet customer specifications for AI chip connections with error-free data transmission at target speeds and power levels. Pilot production is planned for 2027. Recently, Enlightra raised $15 million in funding from investors including Y Combinator, Runa Capital, Pegasus Tech Ventures, Protocol Labs, Halo Labs, Asymmetry Ventures, and TRAC VC to advance the development and demonstration of its multi-color laser technology, which connects computing chips (GPUs, TPUs) in AI clusters faster and more efficiently than traditional copper cables. Enlightra has participated in renowned programs like Y Combinator (W22) and Intel Ignite (2023) and aims to produce millions of units annually for the global data center market.
